Mbata was not the only one making ends meet through driving in the city of Kano. Being a poor man, his taxi was rickety that did not allow him harvest a good turnover for the day as he hoped he would. Each time his taxi cab was on the road it would emit smoke and thunder sound that send people to a haven. This was to prevent them from inhaling the smoke or otherwise. His co-driver nicknamed him ‘Mr. Thunder’ because of the sound of his engine.

Apart from minding his business, Mbata had an attitude of contentment that was easily heard of him. Most times, his co-drivers would come to taunt him and asked him “when will you buy a brand new taxi?” his reply was always ‘at God’s own appointed time’. While at steering, he was always singing one of his favourite numbers which was “My God is a good God”, as a way of thinking through the output of the day.

One day, as he was driving along Kufu street, a man who was carrying two bags flagged him down. As he stopped, the man suddenly requested. “Take me to Agege”. Immediately he carried the small bag and boarded the taxi while the other was put in the boot of the car. The driver woke him up when they got to Agege and the man left with only the bag he carried forgetting the other in the boot. So he drove off. On realizing the man’s bag in the boot, he thought of what to do since he could not locate the owner of the bag or his house at Agege. First he opened the bag to ensure that it was not illegal or dangerous items that were there. But behold, it was bales of brand new notes in ₦1,000.00 denominations. The sight of it was enough to tempt the most God fearing man. He invited his friend, Senenim who was there to see and his friend got excited saying that God has ended his poverty.                

Mbata, the driver disagreed that he was not going to live on other people’s misfortune. He quickly took the money to the Television House and was counted to be two million naira. Fortunately, when the owner heard the announcement, he showed up with proof of ownership. They returned his money to him and he gave Mbata half of the money.
